Description
This stairway leads to the roof of the fort where there were canons and a vast view of the Atlantic ocean. I did not notice the creepy face on the floor in the doorway until I opened the shot on my screen. The fort is known for it's ghosts and is home to Robert The Doll. Originally built as a Civil War fortification, Fort East Martello has served several purposes over the years. Its last role was as a training facility for the Navy and Army during World War II, after which time the Fort fell into disuse and decay. After extensive restoration, the Key West Art & Historical Society opened it in 1950 to the public as a local art and history museum - See more at: http://www.kwahs.org
